Tell us about yourself:
I was born in Calgary, Alberta and grew up in Denver, Colorado. I graduated from CU Boulder with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and a B.A. in Biochemistry. I received my Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from University of Washington in Seattle. I made a small stop-over in Boise, ID before finally coming back home to Colorado. I currently work as a process engineer for a local semiconductor manufacturer.
I enjoy being active, period. I’ve never broken any bones but I have had three ACL knee surgeries. I played soccer, ran cross-country and swam in high school. I also completed my first sprint triathlon. Last year I got back into the triathlon scene completing my first “adult” sprint triathlon. This year I’ve already completed one and have another one lined up. I played ice hockey for CU Boulder’s club team during undergrad. In Seattle, I found my passion for road biking when I started training with some friends for the 2-day 200-mile Seattle to Portland bike ride. I continue to ride, mainly as triathlon training, but I do try and do one or two events a year. Recently, I’ve completed the MS-150 and like doing Craig’s Hospital Pedal for Possible century ride. While living in Boise, of all places, I started curling. Yes, that sport where people sweep the ice. Every winter I drive down to Golden once a week to throw granite, sweep ice, and drink beer.
I rescued my fur baby piddle pup Mindy in 2010, while living in Seattle. Let’s just say she’s quite the character, providing me with ample entertainment and lots of cuddles.
Why do you “crossfit”?
During grad school, my activity level fell off and I lost my “fitness”. In trying to recover it, I tried the DIY thing and the big box gym thing, both of which didn’t work. I started crossfit because it was something different. I continue to crossfit because it has given me that sense of “team” again, because it continually provides me with progress toward my fitness and health goals, because it allows me to enjoy all the many activities I do, and because it comes with a family of amazing people.
What makes CCCF so special?
Choice city crossfit is special. The coaches are encouraging, knowledgeable, and experienced. They support your fitness both physically and nutritionally. If you have a goal, they have a way for you to achieve it, as long as you put in the work. They care about each individual athlete. I also appreciate that form is of utmost importance. The community is amazing, it feels like a second family. I have met people here that will be lifelong fit friends.
