200716 - Soapbox Thursday - "Progress not Perfection"
First picture was taken in July of 2015 and the bottom one was taken yesterday (July 2020).
These two pictures are different for so many reasons:
1) The top photo was a woman who was still unsure if being muscular was “okay”. She was still married to a boy that was intimidated by strong females (both inside and outside) so that girl in the top photo hesitated working toward being who she wanted! Bottom photo is a powerful woman who loves being badass and strong. She surrounds herself with other ladies who support her and her goals! The mindset of these two people are completely different and to be honest…the one in the bottom photo is 10x happier too.
2) The bottom photo is at the same weight as the top photo, YUP! Crazy right!? But clearly the body composition is completely different. I was all cardio in the top photo, still didn’t love lifting yet but was doing CrossFit while running four days a week still. Now I lift 5 days a week and run 2 days with lots of functional body building included. Becoming the bottom photo took lots and lots of time and eating in a very specific way but now I’m thrilled with how I look.
3) Both of these ladies have learned that focus in CrossFit is important. There’s a million things we can work on but each of these women took one skill at a time and perfected the heck out of it! Now I would say that that the difference between the photos is that the first one was just beginning the journey of learning each movement and the second is starting back at the beginning all the time trying to find progress again in each movement. I still have focus but it’s now on seeing improvement since I’ve learned them all. There’s progress in everything we do!
Give yourself time. Fitness is a long … life long… journey. You are worth the time, effort, and patience to become better and to learn. These two women were happy but once I accepted that life and CrossFit is so much more about your mindset and how you feel on the inside, the outside stuff came so much easier and in stride. Dig deep and figure out where your satisfaction is. Can you find it in the process? If not, figure out how to make yourself enjoy the journey and the focus more, otherwise you will never find the joy you’re looking for because there is no end destination so you need to look for self love in the chase.
