160907 - CrossFit | Wednesdays with Coach Lauren

I often get the question “Lauren, where does your energy come from?” So…here’s my answer for you lovely people ---> Happiness (and coffee)! So I’ve gathered up my strategies for finding consistent bliss that fuels me and I want to share them you:

Think happy thoughts!

Avoid focusing on the negative. Keep your self-talk confident and constructive. Take “can’t” and “won’t” out of your inner monologue, especially at CrossFit where we are all about CAN and WILL!

Surround yourself with positive people!

Quote Rene the Wise, “You are the summary of the 5 people you are with the most.” Thank goodness I’m constantly surrounded by my amazing fit family! Make sure the people in your bubble are good eggs, because you are the resulting omelet.

Be quick to smile and laugh!

Smiling can be a powerful tool. There have been many scientific studies that show how smiling can lift your mood, decrease pain, and reduce stress regardless of the actual feelings being processed by your brain. Try it right now! SMILE! Aren’t you just a tad bit happier!? ☺

Compliment others and be grateful!

We think nice things about people but we don’t often voice them TO those people. If you appreciate the work Coach Michael does, tell him! If you are impressed by the strength and determination of another athlete, let them know! It will make YOU happier because it will make THEM happier.

Get sleep, drink water, eat clean, and exercise regularly!

As a CrossFitter, you already know how important these things are. Make sure you positively fuel your body as much as you fuel your mind. It’s tough to be happy when you are not physically feeling good.

Try not to worry or overthink!

Don’t flirt with “what ifs” and “maybes.” Keep your thoughts focused on the current moment and let the future take care of itself. You have NO control over the thoughts and actions of others so don’t spend too many worries there!

Enjoy the little things!

Sunsets and sunrises are my FAVORITE! Simply a daily occurrence but gosh darn it they are beautiful, put a grin on my face, and steal my breath away. Nothin’ better! Take a moment today to enjoy those tiny nuances of life that make it all worth it.

ALL THAT BEING SAID…sadness, anger, frustration, fear, shame, doubt…all human emotions and all play an important role in our lives. I definitely feel them and in NO way would encourage someone to ignore them. There will be bad situations and set- backs in life which trigger these feelings so it’s important to embrace them, learn from them, and move forward to a happier state of mind.
