170104 - Wednesdays with Coach Lauren
On January 12th the registration for The CrossFit OPEN will…open!!! I’m so excited!!! Here is a great explanation from the CrossFit Games HQ explaining exactly what “The Open” entails:
“The Games season is broken up into three stages. The first stage is the Open. This five-week, five-workout competition is held in CrossFit affiliates and garage gyms around the world. Anyone can participate in this global test and celebration of fitness.
Workouts are released online each Thursday, and athletes have until the following Monday to submit their scores. Anyone who's at least 14 years old can sign up, and join in the first stage of the CrossFit Games season. This year's Open kicks off February 23, 2017.”
Two years ago, a “Scaled Division” was added to the OPEN which made this worldwide competition even more accessible to athletes. If you are curious what the previous workouts entailed, here is a link that includes all of the OPEN WODs from the past couple of years:

Should YOU participate in the OPEN??? YES!!!
Here are 5 reasons why I believe this is TRUE:
1.) To make yourself proud. Show yourself how far you’ve come in your fitness and the progress you’ve made due to your hard work! From year to year, you will be able clearly see your growth as an athlete.
2.) To help create goals. This event isn’t easy and it exposes our weakness but that assists us in seeing where we can improve. Each year I find new skills to work on and skills to practice.
3.) To feel a part of something big. The CrossFit community is GIANT and you are in it! Athletes all over the world will do the same workouts as you as well as our fellow Choice City athletes.
4.) To compete. For some, the thought of competing in a big CrossFit event is too intimidating but this is done in the comfort of our gym surrounded by your fit fam so it’s not so scary! And if you already love the thrill of competition then this is right up your alley!
5.) To have fun! If you’re not having fun, you’re not doing it right! Watching the WOD announcements, cheering for friends, talking strategy, and doing some of the hardest workouts you’ve ever done. It’s a blast!!!
In less than two weeks, we will post the link to the registration page. You will simply create a profile, pay $20, and then you’re officially a participant of THE OPEN! Every Friday from Feb. 23rd through March 27th we will do that week's OPEN WOD as the workout for that day BUT on Saturday mornings, we will encourage people to not only come to participate in the same OPEN WOD and also come watch their fellow athletes kick butt!!
