A gentle soul with a heart of gold, this bad mamma-jamma has found her love for fitness in the CrossFit experience! She's a powerhouse when it comes putting weight over head and she's quickly conquering new skills with every WOD. Her passion for her amazing family and life shows in her attitude and her glowing smile! Nikki, her daughter and also a devoted member of CCCF, is heading out to California to take on a great new job and we are so happy for her! Luckily we get to keep Miss Marquita around so Nikki will return with every visit back home! Learn even more about our lovely Marquita below in her interview as this weeks Face of Choice City!
Tell us about yourself.
I'm from here. Fort Collins. Been married 28 years to the same guy. Have 3 daughters. Kathy 25, Tori 23, and Nikki 21. I have two grandsons a 7 year old and 3 year old. They are awesome! My husband and I have owned our own business since 1998, 19 years! Bio-Medical Janitorial. I really love sports!! When I'm not working, I'm watching football, MMA, or Nascar (one of the last true fans). I love walking around on trails in the outdoors. So much of what I do is centered around my family. With all of my kids grown up now though, we are starting to rediscover our hobbies and travel more.
Why do you "CrossFit"?
My past in fitness is pretty much none. My husband is a body builder so I tried to do lifting with him but that was his passion, not mine. My daughters were into volleyball so I followed them in that. When Nikki was out in California she started CrossFit with a 40 year old friend so I made me start believing that I could also do this. She showed me the CrossFit Games from last year but that almost intimated me more! The masters athletes were super inspirational though and more closely connected to me so I figured over time, I could get there. So, I decided to give it a try.
What makes Choice CIty so special?
When we were looking for gyms, I wanted to find one that would fit Nikki's needs and after reading Michael's bio about his service, I knew Nikki could connect with him on that. I wanted her to have someone to relate to and help her heal from her own tough military experience. Without pressure or judgment, Choice City helps you develop with only patience and understanding. Buddy the gym dog is great to have around too! There's so much love here. It feels good to be strong, I never thought I could feel this good.
