170613 - TIPS Tuesday - Mobility Tools
Becoming a Supple Leopard is a fantastic tool for folks to improve their mobility and flexibility.
When we talk about flexibility and mobility, the main difference is that flexibility is the ability use a joint through it's full range of motion. The primary focus of mobility is to improve positions thereby improving power output and performance.
Flexibility in and of itself is okay, but if you cannot produce power, then you're just a garden hose.
We have 2 volumes of Becoming a Supple Leopard. The second volume (black cover) has mobility prescriptions (pg 467) and an injury matrix so that's the one to go for if you have a choice.
Both volumes have extensive protocols to get into better positions, you want to start with the Area Map (p. 282 in the black and p. 228 in the white)
Everything is well presented, despite being fixed photos on a page. If you need more nuanced descriptions of the mobilizations, you can ask Michael (Mobility Certified) or Lauren or Bri. Alternatively you can open up YouTube and type in Kelly Starrett and whatever's ailing you and find a 10 minute video addressing that issue.
