STRENGTH: the capacity of an object or substance to withstand great force or pressure.

WEAKNESS: a quality or feature regarded as a disadvantage or fault.

I would propose that the force a “strong” person withstands is weakness. Most people have the perception that strong individuals are void of weakness BUT to the contrary, they are surrounded and filled with weaknesses. It’s the confrontation, fight, awareness, and acceptance of our faults that build us up to improve. On a physical level, our muscles need to tear and stretch to build MORE strength within the cells. In CrossFit, the only way to seek out strength is to figure out what you’re bad at then continually focus on those faults. It’s humbling and hard, but necessary to take steps back to move forward.

Our mind is no different. The challenges life puts us through…. heartache, loss, anxiety, disappointment, depression, criticism … these moments in our lives hurt and breakdown our mental state to pieces. Putting ourselves back together is the development of that strength. Each of the moments where we feel the most weak are the biggest opportunities to grow stronger. We embrace these negative experiences to harness them for our future selves. You’ve survived every difficult point up until now and it’s your choice of whether you use those times to be a stronger person on the other side.
