170329 - Faces of Choice City - Cindy

Cindy is just as kick-butt as her namesake benchmark WOD that we did on Monday! She is all about her family and enjoying life to its fullest! She inspires every athlete she encounters with her determination and grit in workouts! This beautiful, sassy woman is a proud Army momma, a loving wife, and a strong role model for her three young daughters! Cindy originally started CrossFit to find friendship but found so much more! Now she and her family are a big part of OUR Fit Family!

Tell us about yourself.
I’m 36 years old, was born in South Gate, Ca and moved to Bakersfield, CA where I lived since I was 15 years old before moving to Fort Collins. I have lived in Colorado for almost 3 years now. I come from a big family; I have 9 siblings! I have been married to my amazing husband (Randy) for 12 years and we have 4 kids, Lalo (who is in the Army, I’m super proud!) June, Salene, and Sarai. I currently work for the Larimer County Dept. of Health and Environment where I work on two programs; HPV education/outreach and the Tuberculosis program. I’m also currently in college finishing my Nursing degree. This city girl has definitely embraced the Colorado life and stepped out into the outdoors more. When I have time, my family and I like to get out and see Colorado. But, I still enjoy a day of shopping and pampering.

Why do you "CrossFit"?
I honestly started CrossFit to make friends. When I moved to Fort Collins in July of 2014 I was still a stay-at-home mom and needed a way to meet people. I heard that CrossFit was a community, so I decided to try it out. Since starting I have fallen in love with CrossFit. When I began classes I couldn’t do a damn thing, seriously! I love what CrossFit has done for me physically and mentally. Never in a million years did I ever think I would be lifting weights. I like the feel of having a personal trainer every time I walk into the gym. Someone who walks me through the WOD, and helps me decide the weight I should use, if I should scale, and pushes me past what I believe are my limits.

What makes Choice City so special?
Everything! The coaches, athletes, beer in the fridge, and most of all Buddy (the gym dog). Our coaching staff is awesome, they are all very knowledgeable and get to know their athletes' abilities to help them safely achieve their goals. It really doesn’t matter how big (to make regionals) or small (first box jump) your goal is, they see them all as something to work towards and achieve. Not only has Coach Michael pushed me to reach various PR’s, but so have other athletes in the gym. Everyone encourages and helps each other out. As I’ve said before, I am so far away from my large family, the people at Choice City have really become my second family.
