150608 - The Finish Line | CrossFit, Catalyst
For each of the workouts we do we have a training goal in mind. Sometimes it's reps, sometimes it's a time constraint.
If you short the reps or short the time, then you're just hurting yourself.
If you consistently short the reps, and I'm not talking about mis-counting occasionally, you're not impressing anyone. As a matter of fact you're establishing that you're a cheater. Plain and simple. You're not fooling anyone. "Hey so and so is done, so I'll do 5 more reps then I'm done too." Believe me I know and everyone else knows too. There's nothing wrong with being the last person finished. As a matter of fact, it takes mental toughness to finish it up when everyone else is done.
By the same token, when I count down the remaining seconds on the clock, I almost always hear bars drop with 10 seconds left. Regardless of the lift or the weight, you can probably get another rep in. Let me put it in plain terms: If you were running a 5k, you wouldn't quit 200m from the end. You'd finish or be a failure.
Don't be that guy or gal. Do the work. Scale when appropriate.
Be your best self. Get to the finish line with your effort and honor intact.
