160212 - FYF | Stay in Your Lane
At my front of the class vantage point, I often see the wandering eyes of athletes watching others working out. I can see them calculating either number of reps or poundage for the other person and see a sigh and a look of reservation before they go back to the task at hand.
Your self-talk continues... "How long has that other person been coming here? How is it that they're stronger/faster/harder than me?" The self doubt creeps in and overwhelms you.
Let me set that straight for you. Nothing increases stress and sets you up for failure more than comparing yourself to others. The comparison is unfair, unreasonable, irrelevant and self-defeating.
CrossFit is about you and how you can better yourself. Every day, every time you come in. If you hold yourself up to someone else's abilities or standards, you're doing yourself a disservice.
So put those blinders on, stay in your lane and kick ass.
