170503 - Faces of Choice City - Sarah
This sweetheart is Sarah! She joined us about two months ago with major hesitations about CrossFit. She wasn't sure she would make it past the first month but now she's going strong and looking forwards to much more time spent with Choice City. She's making huge progress everyday and she comes to all of the social events that she can. Her spunky attitude and joyful demeanor makes her a pleasure to coach and workout with!
Tell me about yourself
I was born in Park Forest, IL. but raised in a town called Columbus, IN. I attended Ball State University where I majored in Visual Communications (aka Graphic Design) and minored in Japanese. Right after I got a job designing in the Mishawaka/Elkhart area of IN. No I am not a Notre Dame fan! There I met my boyfriend of 2.5 years. Together we, and our two cats, moved out to Fort Collins in February of 2017 where he started a new job. I continue to work for my company in Indiana and have also started as a consultant for LuLaRoe. I enjoy art, cooking (and eating for that matter), hiking, playing board games, and karaoke.
Why do you “CrossFit”?
As a child I was very active all the way through high school. When I hit college I was more worried about grades and projects than watching how I ate or how much I was exercising. My daily exercise included power walking between classes and walking around art studios. After college my life slowed down some and I attempted to start taking better care of myself. I joined a gym, tried to watch what I was eating but the motivation just wasn’t there. I found myself failing time and time again to meet goals from lack of knowledge and drive. When we moved to Fort Collins, I wanted to make a commitment to my overall health and fitness. I knew I needed to make a dramatic change because everything in the past I already knew wasn’t going to work. So I began the hunt for a personal trainer / gym and that is where CrossFit came in! I knew after limping away from the first few classes with a smile on my face that this was something I didn’t want to give up.
What makes Choice City so special?
I never saw myself as a CrossFit person. I didn’t think I had the mental fortitude or a good enough base to jump into something that seemed so intimidating and tough. After just the intro class I knew that I hadn’t stepped into a meat factory but a place where health and family came first. A place where people build each other up and drive you to be the best person you can be. Since day one everyone at the gym from coaches to athletes have been nothing kind and welcoming. You are never competing to be better than someone else, only to be better than who you were yesterday.
