Accountability
One of the great things that CrossFit offers is accountability. Accountability is so important in achieving our goals. For many of us, it is not a big deal to let yourself down. Oh, I didn’t do what I planned to this time, you might say to yourself. I’ll just do better tomorrow/next week/next month/in some perfect world. It is a lot harder to let someone else down and flake out on a commitment.
As you become involved with a CrossFit community (fitfam, if you will), those relationships naturally occur with your coach(es) and fellow athletes. You will see the same people on a regular basis. It’s a lot harder to let a fellow athlete or coach down, if you say you will be at class tomorrow, or three times this week, or whatever your plan is.
Take advantage of this system. Don’t be afraid to ask someone or a few people to keep you accountable. Tell them your goals, where you are struggling, and how they can support you. It may be as simple as checking in via text message once a day, or both agreeing to be at class on a certain day.
You can also use social media to your advantage here. Last week, I was struggling to make it to CrossFit regularly. I made a goal to make it twice last week. Sure, twice is less than I would like to go, but it is more than I had been going regularly for a while. I strive for progress, not perfection. Different things came up. We all have so many things going on in our lives. It doesn’t really matter what came up for me as we all have our own struggles and obstacles that we have to overcome to make CrossFit a priority. So I posted on a private Facebook group that is fitness related and has about 500 members that I was going to go to CrossFit Wednesday morning no matter what, no excuses. Since I posted about it online, I didn’t want to let everyone down and not be true to my word. I got a lot of great support from my fitness group and everyone celebrated with me when I shared that I went to class as planned and was going again the next day!
That’s what the CCCF Athletes Facebook page is for! We are all part of a great community here at CCCF. Let’s take advantage of that and support each other!
My challenge to you is to post about something that you are struggling with related to fitness/health/diet on the CCCF Athletes Facebook page, if you are a Facebook user. Let’s support each other and pump each other up! We can do this, together!
